In february 2007, an european Natura 2000 area might have been destroyed due to some works so as to build a special road, this road is a bypass between the Augustow city and the new highway crossing north east of Poland. This hightway name is Via Baltica because it will join north east european coutries to the central and western european coutries.
Howewer, the hightway is not a problem, the problem comes from the special bypass that the polish government (this current polish government, runned by Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczynski, from the PiS ( law and justice party )) wants to settle. The polish government don’t have the right to do it owing to the european legislation. The Government given up the works in February because a special polish law about nesting prevented it from doing anything . This law started the 1st of March 2007, and will finish the 1st of august. The polish Government will restart the construction of the bypass the 1st of August 2007, and the Rospuda Valley will be destroyed forever.
On the one hand, this bypass will cross the Rospuda Valley, a special place where we can find unique vegetable and animal species
On the other, all the plans that the polish autorities, and especially the polish ministry of environment, has acquainted, couldn’t represent a garantee so as to save this place.
Thus, the only way so as to defend this valley, is to protest and to sign an european and international petition that it will be sent to the European Commission. The European Commission will complain to the Justice Court of European Coutries, nevertheless, it will need support, that’s why such an european petition had been done.
The Rospuda Valley needs your help, your signature, and European Commission needs to be embolden with this petition.
